I've always wondered why there is so much emphasis put on the #'s for the Memorial. Many attend the Memorial but don't attend any other meetings for the rest of the year. Same thing happens in churches for Easter and Christmas. The parking lots are packed, but only twice a year. -

If you could do anything publicly to get JWs out
by cognac inand money wasn't an issue, what would it be?

If money was no object I would approach the GB members and tell them to name their price. Every man has their price right? The money is theirs but first they have to post videos on their website divulging all the weird stuff in the jw history and admit that it all is a scam. They have to come clean on everything and then disappear with the promise of never to start any new religions ever again. I think I would have to break out and sing that old gospel song "OH HAPPY DAY"!!

Yes, Blondie that is how I understood it. Like it was an honor that I didn't deserve until I was baptized. I was also told that I couldn't go out in FS until baptized. I've since been told by others though that isn't true. -

Maybe it's more comfortable if you grew up a jw, but for me being an outsider it felt and sounded very strange. When I was studying they explained that I really wouldn't be a true sister until I was baptized. Little did they know I was fine with that. My fleshly (yep that is another weird one) sisters are my true sisters.
I agree with the others that posted it's a control/cult term.

I wasn't able to listen to the entire interview, however, what I heard was very interesting and informative. He is a former cult member (moonies) and his family was able to get him out. He spoke about several different cults and the methods they use to manipulate their followers. -

Rodney Spinks Lies...
by iwasblind inhi guys.
i actually have had dealings with rod and found him to be a very reasonable and "non-robotic" man in the past.. i know it should not surprise me, but i was disappointed to hear his lies and half-truths.. they know their stuff and are not easily led, but he tried to lead the royal commission to believe that 2 people could be involved in investigating a claim - which is wrong.. his lack of memory on what parts of the judicial process are biblical - hello - none are.
there are no scriptures that backup the use of 3 men, a body of elders, cutting people off from family and friends, restrictions, etc.. he also lied about the gb being involved in policy creation and changes.. his statement that in all cases, elders are told to inform parents that they can go to the authorities and get the full support of the congregation is not verifiable.

Watching Rodney Spinks I couldnt stop thinking about how he reminded me of Dr. Frederick Chilton in The Silence of the Lambs. He was the warden/doctor/preacher that was trying to rehabilitate Dr. Lechter.

I wasn't able to listen to the entire interview, however, what I heard was very interesting. I didn't know he used to be in a cult himself (moonies) and his family was able to get him out. I plan to listen to it in it's entirety when I have more time. The video is available on the link provided by dudeson if anyone is interested. Thank you, dudeson! -

Crisis of Conscience
by FreeGirl2006 indo you think that any of the clueless, amnesiacs that appeared before the rc will have a crisis of conscience over the abuse situation?
seriously, with the grilling they received from our new heroes, they would have to be sociopaths not to do some long hard thinking about the lack of empathy and compassion the borg displays as a top down policy towards abuse victims.
i can understand these idiots not having an awakening within the confines of their daily lives since they stay cloistered in their belief system, but the rc forced them into the real world with their questions and one would hope, made them think.

I think they will make enough changes (in their opinion) going forward that they will be able to dismiss any guilt they feel from how things were handled so long ago. They will allow the victim to decide how they want to tell their story, who they want to tell it to (initially), and who they would like with them for moral support (including women). They will always tell the victim to go to the police if they wish to do so and they will always recommend that the victim seeks counselling from outside sources. They will still only report the accused to the authorities if the law requires them to do so. If the victim is a young child they will continue to refer to their legal team for advice. I don't think their conscience will drive them to do anything more than what is required by law. -

Do you think they have even shared the info with elders yet? It seems it would be smart to give them a heads up to prepare them for what may be ahead.
